George Ormerod
George makes hand thrown domestic and decorative porcelain and stoneware using rich glazes and vibrant patterns, producing beautiful and contemporary ceramics.
‘I use porcelain and a white burning, stoneware clay. All the domestic ware is hand thrown on the potter’s wheel and then turned to ensure its thinness and even shape. The pink, sgraffitto and the yellow multicolour then have a coloured slip painted on and everything is biscuit fired. I then use wax and latex resist and pour on layers of felspathic glazes. The pots are then glaze fired to cone 10 or about 1300C in an oxidising gas kiln. At this temperature the glazes run and interact to create the lovely textures and colours.’
